Jason Young is Managing Director and General Manager of ASGK’s Washington, D.C. office, the strategic communications firm founded by David Axelrod and headquartered in Chicago.
Mr. Young specializes in helping clients navigate complex, high-stakes reputation and public policy challenges. He has represented companies such as Medco, Microsoft, Exelon, Cablevision, GlaxoSmithKline, Embarq, Eli Lilly and Company and the Global Business Coalition. He worked extensively on national health care reform, other federal legislation, crisis issues and regulatory matters for a broad array of clients.
Before GPG, Young ran communications for the American Psychiatric Association, where he crystallized public repudiation of Tom Cruise, who had launched a high-profile crusade against mental health. Young also led multiple successful efforts to secure Food and Drug Administration regulatory decisions that reflected the input of patients and physicians. And he initiated the APA’s award-winning Healthy Minds public education campaign.
In addition Young has served as a press secretary in local Democratic politics and in key communications roles at People For the American Way and the Victory Fund, a civil rights political action committee.
Over his career in political communications, Young has media trained more than a thousand physicians, corporate leaders and political candidates. An on-the-record spokesperson and gifted writer, Young’s quotes, essays and letters can be found in The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Roll Call, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as well as scientific and trade publications.
